He might be made of half vodka, the other half is a lifetime of passion for progressive house and trance. DJing for some of Vancouver’s underground parties like Soundproof, his crowd are some of the most maniacal party people you will ever meet.

WHAT IS ‘UPLIFTED’ ALL ABOUT?
It is time to rally the Vancouver Trance Family once again for another gathering of epic proportions! There are so many passionate Trance lovers in our beautiful city of Vancouver, which has made it easy for many of us to meet each other and connect through the music. This is a night to bring the family together so that more of us can meet and appreciate the great talent of our local DJs. It is quite special to have such an open-minded group of individuals with such a passion for good music. The Vancouver Trance Family is that amazing group of people. There is so much diversity in our Trance community and when the music is playing, everything else is forgotten and we join as one in appreciation of the moment. We can thank our love for the international Trance scene and the amazing DJs and music producers that run its circuit. However, without our local clubs, fellow Trance enthusiasts, and especially our local DJs, our ability to enjoy that together would be next to impossible. We are very lucky in Vancouver to have such talented local DJs, and with each day that passes, their skills become more apparent. Now, together, the Vancouver Trance Family will continue to showcase that local talent in a night that is all about VTF and what it stands for: LOVE and COMMUNITY. This could be the start of something big, and will be a real test of our local Trance community’s passion for the music. The Vancouver Trance Family is growing bigger and closer with each day that passes and it really feels amazing to be part of such a great community of epic people. Alkatraz has proven to be the future of Dance Music. Bursting on to the scene in 2009 with his debut release on Black Hole Recordings, John Pirito aka Alkatraz been catching the eyes and ears of the industry’s top dogs. Although fairly new to the scene, he has been quietly plotting his rise to the top for nearly ten years. In 2006, upon graduating at one of Canada’s top Sound Engineering Institutions, and after years of working on several projects spanning many genres, John decided to sculpt his signature sound in Dance Music. The ‘Alkatraz Sound’ blurs the lines of House, Techno and Trance in an effort to keep the party rockin. Over the last 3 years, he has done just that; Alkatraz has had the opportunity to share the stage all over the world with top DJs such as Ferry Corsten, Cosmic Gate, Johan Gielen, Sander Van Doorn, Bad Boy Bill, John 00 Fleming, Lee Haslam, Ernesto V Bastian and many others. ‘Being able to play for crowds of any size is a blessing and always the best part of my job. There is no better feeling then to rock out with a room full of people sharing the same love for music’. Despite Alkatraz playing the biggest and best clubs from Amsterdam to Shanghai, it was his original productions that gained him recent notoriety. It all began when Tiesto featured the Alkatraz song “We’re Rollin” on his acclaimed ClubLife Radio show. This lead to an immediate debut release on Black Hole Recordings which met rave reviews and support from the likes of Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Above & Beyond, Robbie Rivera, Matt Darey, Johan Gielen, Richard Durand The Flash Bros, Sied van Riel and many more. His next release ‘A Minor Crisis’ was handled by UK imprint Seamless Recordings. The 4 track EP quickly turned heads and boasts support from Tiesto, Gareth Emery, Super8 & Tab, Laurent Garnier, and Pete Heller, among numerous other top ranked jocks. Apart from touring and weekly radio show residencies on Black Hole Radio, Slinky FM, and City Beat Radio, Alkatraz is set to continue releasing brand new material on Black Hole Recordings.
Alkatraz’s newest track “Elation”, in collaboration with fellow producer Taylor and vocalist Jennifer Hershman, was recently released on June 6, 2011 on Black Hole Recordings. “Elation” stands for joyfulness or exaltation of spirit, as from success, pleasure, or relief. Supported by the likes of Armin van Buuren, and inclusive of a Jonas Steur remix, you can check out his new release at these locations:

Vehemence has never let a crowd down, he will always keep the dance floor rocking and begging for more. His rising fame is due to great charisma and an uncanny ability to play exactly what party-goers need to hear. VTF DJ CONTEST!
Are you a BEDROOM DJ? Do you think you have what it takes to be an awesome club DJ and play live for the Vancouver Trance Family? We know that many of you bedroom DJs are part of the Vancouver Trance Family and so we want to give you, you who hasn’t had the opportunity to play in a club before, a shot at that dream! Send your mixes to Uzair Hassan at uzery3k@gmail.com with the subject “I have a dream” and you will have a chance at opening for our talented VTF DJs to kick off this fantastic night, and everyone’s CANADA DAY WEEKEND! Mixes should be hand-mixed with DJ hardware and RECORDED LIVE , have a length of ONE HOUR and be under 130 BPM. Submit your mixes by June 17th for your chance at this great opportunity!
Once the event organizers have filtered through the mixes, we’ll pick the best ones and post them on our Vancouver Trance Family Mixcloud page for people to vote on! The mixes with the top 3 highest votes will then be considered upon by the judges who will announce the winner of the opening slot on June 24th. The lucky winner will get to open for the Vancouver Trance Family at Shine Nightclub from 10pm-11pm at our UPLIFTED event on June 30th!
